How Science Works Series

I've decided to start a series of posts on how science (especially biomedical research) works. I hope it will help new medical writers that sometimes feel daunted by the language and the methods of science.

If you think about any topic you would want me to deal with, just let me know. My first post will follow.

How about biostatistics and the importance of understanding the much discussed "P" value and confidence intervals (CI). From my experience it seems that no matter how hard one studies the topic, or how hard one tries to simplify it, there is always someone in the office that will challenge the explanation, regardless of what references say.
